What Fabric Is Best, Cotton, Linen, or Silk?
Cotton is the best material for a birthday handkerchief because it is soft, absorbent, machine washable, and takes both printing and embroidery cleanly. Every birthday hankie we make is 100% cotton and stays white through years of laundering.

Silk handkerchiefs look expensive and perform badly. - 1st birthday. The gift is really for the parents. Put the child's name and full birth date on it and let them keep it.
- 16th and 18th. Name and year, kept simple. This is the age where a keepsake gets stored rather than displayed, and rediscovered later.
- 21st. "Established [year]" reads well, since the year is the point.
