href=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/ladiesHandkerchiefs.php\">handkerchief<\/a> in half onto itself so that the printed side is facing in.<\/p>\n<p>Pin the edge of the two facing sides of fabric together. \u00a0This will hold the outer edge in place. \u00a0Make sure to place the pins in about 1\/2 inch so that you can cut off the finished edge in the next step.<\/p>\n<p>Cut off the scalloped edge from the long side of your bookmark.<\/p>\n<p>Cut off a length of the handkerchief that is about 1\/2 inch wider than you&#8217;d like your finished product to be. \u00a0I like to make sure that the finished product is about 1 inch wider than the ribbon I&#8217;m using at the top.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if your ribbon is 3\/4 inches wide then your finished bookmark will be 1 3\/4 inches wide and you&#8217;ll want to cut the handkerchief to 2 1\/4 inches wide to begin the project.<\/p>\n<p><a ribbon INSIDE the <a href=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/hankieFoldStair.php\">folded handkerchief<\/a>. \u00a0I like to place mine a little more than 1 inch from the bottom of the handkerchief. \u00a0This will create a finishing touch at the bottom of the bookmark.<\/p>\n<p>Pin the ribbon into place on both sides of the handkerchief.<a ribbon about 3 inches long.<\/p>\n<p>Fold this ribbon in half onto itself and place it in between the pieces of handkerchief at the top of the bookmark. \u00a0Center it along the top and pin it in 1\/4 inch from the edge of your bookmark along three sides, leaving an\u00a0opening to turn the fabric later on one long side.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to do this. Start\u00a0about 1 inch from one corner of your handkerchief. \u00a0You can see the starting point of my seam at the bottom left of the picture above.<\/p>\n<p>Sew a straight seam from that point to the bottom corner. \u00a0Then turn and sew around the three other sides. \u00a0When you reach the fourth side (where you began sewing), stop sewing about 1 inch from the top corner. \u00a0This will leave an unsewn opening in the middle of that fourth side. \u00a0You can see where I stopped sewing the bottom edge\u00a0just right of center\u00a0in the image above.<\/p>\n<p>Trim\u00a0any excess fabric and make sure to snip the corners before turning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1860\" src=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-6.jpg\" alt=\"hanky Bookmark process 6\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-6.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-6-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-6-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turn your bookmark right sides out. \u00a0Use scissors to gently press into the corners so that they&#8217;re as pointy and crisp as they can be.<\/p>\n<p>One of your sides of the bookmark will probably have a more interesting pattern than the other side. \u00a0Think of this side as the front of the bookmark. \u00a0Make sure to arrange things so that the bottom ribbon lands on the side of the bookmark that you&#8217;d like to be the front. \u00a0Just flip it over if it tries to arrange itself on\u00a0the\u00a0wrong side of the bookmark.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1857\" src=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-7.jpg\" alt=\"hanky Bookmark process 7\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-7.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-7-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-7-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Iron the bookmark on warm, making sure to press the edges flat. \u00a0Also make sure to iron the edges where the opening is. \u00a0You&#8217;ll want to iron the edges facing in so that it will be easier to sew a clean edge.<\/p>\n<p>Sew a straight topstitch 1\/8 inch from the edges. \u00a0Start above the opening so that the first part of this topstitch closes the opening you used to turn the bookmark.<\/p>\n<p>Begin and finish with a backstitch to lock your work in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1861\" src=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-8.jpg\" alt=\"hanky Bookmark process 8\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-8.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-8-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/bumblebeelinens.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/hanky-Bookmark-process-8-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use a needle and thread to attach the button on top of where the ribbon meets the bookmark.
